Martin Allerton / Steven Pockett:

Powerboat P1 arrives in the Baltic resort of Travemunde for this weekend’s German Grand Prix (World Championship rounds 5 & 6) with the promise of a Fest of entertainment, ranging from two-days of spectacular Grand Prix race action, a special P1 Friday time-trial on the Trave, big screen football featuring the World Cup quarter finals, live music and a fashion show by the high-fashion brand Offshore Legends, featuring the contestants from the Miss Belgium beauty contest. And if that is not enough to make any red-blooded male hot under the collar, the weather forecast suggests a sun-baked weekend!

Last year’s event was attended by over 150,000 people and the special atmosphere on land was matched by the excitement and dramatic action on the water. In fact, Travemunde proved to be a turning point in the Evolution Class World Championship as Austrian boat Wettpunkt.com took its maiden victory from the previously unbeaten Sony craft (now Kerakoll) and created a momentum that would eventually lead to the title, snatched in a thrilling finale on the last day of the season.

After four rounds of the twelve round 2006 Powerboat P1 World Championship, 20 boats will arrive in Germany and all of them have sights set on victory. One of the features of this year’s highly competitive racing is the unpredictability of the outcome, exactly what motorsport needs to attract media interest and capture the public’s imagination.

Italian teams currently dominate the Evolution Class with Mario Invernizzi and Giovani Carpitella leading in Kerakoll, whilst in SuperSport three teams have the same number of points at the top of the leaderboard; Albatro Marine, ARPRO and Buzzi Bullet. And like the World Cup, which will be screened live just a few minutes walk from the racing, there is a strong international flavour including teams from Germany, Italy and England.

The weekend’s racing action will be supported by Thundercats, the highly competitive and hugely exciting race series where the boats are designed to plane quickly across the water, providing close action racing and an adrenaline sport that is thrilling for both racers and spectators.

Off the water the Travemunde Promenade will be bustling with people throughout the three day festival; mingling amongst the mile of trade stalls, cafe bars, taking in the action and enjoying the beach and live music from the main stage which includes top bands and DJs.

Championship sponsor Offshore Legends has selected this event to promote its superb range of sports fashion clothing. In keeping with the dynamic, fast living and glamour of Powerboat P1, its designer-wear features a wet pit, dry pit and VIP range. The clothing will be modelled on the catwalk by Belgium’s finest beauties and there will be a dedicated Offshore Legends shop situated close-by for those with taste and style.

Glamour and celebrities are a feature of P1. The film icon Paul Newman recently sampled the speed and power of a 2000 horse-power P1 machine, and this weekend will be no exception as European pop star Dana Winner and the great Belgium international and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Jean-Marie Pfaff join the party. Glamour will also arrive in the form of the Bentley Owners Club, guest for the weekend.
