Coastguard news:
After yesterday's assistance to Shetland Round Britain & Ireland race yachts, Knights Challenge and Ruffian, Stornoway Coastguard was again attending competing yachts today.
This morning, at 08:30, the yacht Vijaya requested assistance from Stornoway Coastguard and was towed into Catslebay by the RNLI Barra lifeboat. Then the Blue Demon contacted Stornoway Coastguard, at 10:45 this morning, having suffered some damage and was also assisted.
Duncan Mackay Stornoway Coastguard Watch Manager, said: "It was very unusual for us to receive so many calls from one event at one time, but weather conditions for this time of year are unseasonably poor and we are pleased that each casualty was safely returned to Castlebay, or was able to continue with the race." |
