Company news:
Halyard Marine Ltd, the company that specialises in helping boat manufacturers to reduce noise and vibration on board boats, will be helping keep down the noise on Offshore Provider, a new logistical support vessel for offshore wind farms.
Offshore Provider is a 15 metre South Catamaran made by South Boats Special Projects in Cowes. She will be used by Offshore Wind Power Marine Services Ltd of Conwy, North Wales, to provide logistical solutions and engineer transfers to offshore wind farm builders and operators.
Designed specifically for stability and crew safety, Offshore Provider will be required to operate in hostile conditions at sea, where transferring personnel could take place in wave heights exceeding 2.5m. As well as providing good fuel efficiency and excellent manoeuvrability, Offshore Provider also caters for crew comfort, with engine and boat noise significantly reduced thanks to Halyard. The company custom designed the engine and generator exhaust system, using 8 inch stainless steel risers and oval lift silencers. The whole engine room area and jet spaces have been lined with Halyard’s Maritex noise insulation materials, which acts to further reduce any transference of noise on board. The transom is fitted with Halyard’s stainless steel thru-hull exhaust flappers, which reduces the risk of sea water backing up into the exhaust system.
Ben Colman, Sales and Operations Director of South Boats Special Projects Ltd said: “We are really pleased with the silencing solutions available from Halyard. The engine and generator silencers were custom designed and built, and the insulation materials were standard, the whole package was prepared and presented in one delivery, on time. That level of service from a key supplier was vital. It meant we knew exactly what we were getting and when it would be delivered, enabling us to schedule in the fitting and installation at the right time in the build programme.”
Hugh Cunningham of Halyard, said: “We are delighted that South Boats chose Halyard for the Offshore Provider project. The crew and passengers will be facing tough enough conditions going to and from the offshore wind farms. Offshore Provider will be fast, comfortable and quiet, which any hard working crew deserves.”
