Bernadette Fox:

The Board of the Irish Sailing Association (ISA) announced the decision to appoint Harry Hermon as their new Chief Executive Officer.

Harry Hermon joined the ISA professional staff in 1999. Initially as Club Development Officer, Harry’s role evolved in a more strategic direction as Club Development Manager. He was a member of the planning team who developed the current strategic plan, now in its third year of implementation. Harry also wrote the ISA marketing plan, the execution of which is high on his agenda. Each plan focuses on boating and sailing as a sport for all, a lifelong activity that crosses all age boundaries.

“The challenges facing such a broad based organisation like the ISA are encapsulated under our ‘life long activity’ vision. The very variety within our sport provides so many people with the opportunity for an activity that evolves with them,” said Robert Dix, ISA President.

“The Board is confident that Harry’s skills, knowledge and experience will ensure that the organisation continues to grow and prosper. His leadership will ensure that the ISA develops services and support for the benefit of all involved in water based activities.”

Harry intends to explore the current operational structure of the organisation to fulfill the objectives as outlined in the 2004 -2008 Strategic Plan, to ensure that the organisation is operating effectively and to increase relevant communications with the membership.

“The ISA is primarily a federation of clubs,” commented Harry. “We realise that we need to work closely with the individual clubs to service the needs of our members, while at the same time staying focused on the development of the wider sport”

“The ISA has 22,000 members however there are an additional 120,000 participating in boating activities outside the club system. Our challenge is to develop relevant products and services which also target their needs” Harry concluded.
