Jodie Perkins:

Competition at the ISAF World Sailing Games is now into the finals series. Seven kiwi campaigners are contesting the finals in the gold fleet over the remaining four days of the regatta taking place in Austria.

The final series will be sailed in a gold and silver fleet, with only the sailors in the gold fleet in contention to proceed through to the Final Medal Race. The gold fleet do not carry their points from the qualification series, so earlier form has no impact as they proceed through to the crucial final series.

Tom Ashley is currently the best placed kiwi lying third overall in the men’s RS:X. Others to reach the gold fleets include Michael Bullot and Andrew Murdoch in the Laser as well as Jo Aleh and Sara Winther in the Laser Radial.

Stephen & Philip Keen (men’s 470) and Steffanie Williams (women’s RS:X) are also all into the gold fleet in their respective classes.

Both Brett Sellers & Nigel Williams (Hobie Tiger) and Jake Bartrom & Craig Prentice (49er) missed the gold fleet finals series by a narrow one point margin.

The regatta concludes overnight on Saturday. Results and reports are updated daily on the regatta website through the link below.
