Product news:

Northstar, one of the leading manufacturers of world-class marine navigation systems in the USA, has introduced a new line of high-performance integrated networked systems, the 6100i series. Based on the highly acclaimed 6000i, the new device is available in multiple screen sizes and supports the award-winning Platinum cartography, as well as all other cartography products available from Navionics. The 6100i, featuring Northstar’s renowned user interface, incorporates powerful GPS chartplotting, fishfinding, radar, video and Mercury SmartCraft™ technology into an advanced networked system.

Available in 15-inch, 12-inch, 10.4-inch, 8.4-inch, and 6.4-inch formats, the 6100i displays are all sunlight viewable and deliver crystal-clear images in all lighting conditions. Standard features include a lightning fast zoom and scroll feature, new one-touch numeric keystroke PowerZoom™ feature, one-touch brightness and contrast controls, menu bar navigation aids, hide and show on-screen menus, an alphanumeric keypad for effortless entry, and a mobile phone-like search of waypoints, routes or position coordinates.

The 6100i is the only device on the market that displays Navionics Platinum charts in full-screen VGA mode. With greater resolution than other Platinum-compatible products, the 6100i displays the cartography clearer and with more detail than previously possible. Unique features provide navigators the ability to seamlessly move across multiple 3-D chart tiles and regions without GPS input.

In addition, a unique camera mode allows navigators to tilt and rotate charts simultaneously for enhanced 3-D perspective views. Other features include 3-D bathymetric views and top down satellite/ high-aerial photography overlays on chart data.

The 6100i integrated networked system is powered by Northstar’s N2 technology. Chart data present on the system master is available to all other plotters on the N2 network. Waypoints and routes are instantaneously shared across the entire system. GPS position information, depth soundings, radar images, full motion video and SmartCraft data can be displayed in full and split screen mode, seamlessly across all screens regardless of which display head the sensors are connected to. The 6100i is backwards compatible and can be networked to Northstar 6000i devices already installed on boats.

Navionics Platinum and Gold+ features, specific to the 6100i can be shared across all 6100i display heads in the system, while cartography on networked 6000i’s will display as Navionics Gold.

Northstar 6100i Options

The optional 6100i radar module delivers full-featured color radar technology with a choice of power outputs from 2kW radomes to 25kW sweeps, supporting ranges up to 96 miles. Radar data can be viewed independently, in split screen mode or displayed as an overlay on the chart screen giving captains a variety of options to suit their needs. With the Mercury SmartCraft upgrade, 6100i users receive real-time information on all critical SmartCraft-enabled engine, boat and environmental conditions on each display head in the system.

The Northstar 491, a powerful dual-frequency (50/200 kHz) fishfinder, can also be added and allows users to review bottom coverage history and mark that productive fishing spot. Available in 600 or 1000 watts, the sounder comes with the latest fishfinding features producing the results serious fishermen expect.
