Marcus Schaps:
Training boat modified again over the Easter holidays. The United Internet Team Germany sailors had a true Easter holiday. And they undoubtedly deserved the break, having just spent eleven strenuous days packed with training races. But while the sailing team was enjoying the time off at Easter, the shore crew continued its toil. Once again, they have been using the days off training to modify and further optimize the training yacht GER-72.
“Most likely, there will now be no more modifications before the Acts,” says skipper Jesper Bank. After the Easter holidays, the yacht will be exactly like she will be when the pre-regattas start on 11 May. Working on the boat over the holidays was aimed at improving her speed.
The sailors have been using their well-deserved break to relax. Those with families elsewhere travelled back home. Some team members, however, already have their loved ones living with them in Valencia and spent the Easter weekend in the America’s Cup city of 2007. It has only been a short break though, and the training will be resumed straight after Easter – to be in excellent shape for the Acts, which will begin in only two and a half weeks.
