Orange sailing:

The Orange II maxi-catamaran was relaunched, yesterday morning, in front of the Multiplast Yard in Vannes, where she spent the winter. Winner of the crewed round the world record last winter, Bruno Peyron’s giant is now ready for a new campaign of records, which is due to be announced soon.

During the winter, the boat underwent a complete inspection, but no major modifications were made. Bruno Peyron: "The team in charge of logistics gave her a complete check-up, which chiefly involved working on her reliability and safety. We had never asked so much of the boat until the round the world voyage, so the whole structure was examined with an ultrasound scanner in order to ensure her overall condition. We even changed the fore beam bearings to guarantee they were sound. The boat was re-rigged and all of the sails replaced with the exception of the mainsail. The giant is now ready to embark on some new adventures."

Orange II will now be heading for her working base in Lorient where the final stages of the technical and sporting preparation for her 2006 record attempts will take place. To be continued…

There are over 300 pictures of Orange II in the Orange II album in the BYM Photo Gallery.
