Under a month from now, on May 11th, the 2006 America's Cup Class season begins with the Valencia Louis Vuitton Act 10. And in almost one year, the Louis Vuitton Cup starts. With Act 10 in Valencia during the same timeframe as the Challenger Selection Series 2007, the teams will benefit greatly from this year’s competition.

USA 87, the first new BMW ORACLE Racing yacht of the 2007 generation, was built in Anacortes, Washington, in the US, and in March it was christened in Valencia. Since then the team has been working six-day weeks in order to optimise the yacht in training duels against trial horse USA 76. The team has yet to name the yacht it will enter in Louis Vuitton Act 10.

“With only 30 days to the start of the 2006 racing season, we are training six days a week in Valencia,” said BMW ORACLE Racing CEO and Skipper Chris Dickson. “We maximize our time on the water as best we can to complete our the sea trials on our new boat while at the same time conduct race training. We see most of our competitors out there each day so we know all teams are going into this season well-prepared but the Defender remains the team to beat in 2006.”

BMW ORACLE Racing is determined to do its best to defend the lead in the Louis Vuitton Ranking, since this decides over the distribution of bonus points for the Round Robins of the Louis Vuitton Cup. With one year to the Louis Vuitton Cup, every race counts.
