Boat builder news:

The Pacecat Sport is a stable and compact weekend catamaran about to be put into production by Cobra Catamarans of Newcastle. Designed by Ian Hall whose boats include the 8 metre Hurricane micro tris of the 80’s, Cobra Catamarans have spent three years developing the Pacecat. Although only 21’on the waterline, she has full standing headroom in either hull together with comfortable sleeping for four, occasionally six.

Wide beam and high freeboard offer flat and dry sailing and under sail will return very respectable off wind speeds of 16 knots in 18 knots of wind – so no slow coach either!

Utilising long segmented keels the craft will sail to windward at 39 degrees and under auxiliary power turn on its own axis. An inboard mounted 5hp outboard will motor her along at 8 knots.

Standard rig includes 33’ fractionally rigged mast with 400 sq ft fully battened main and 210 sq ft jib. Additional sail power can be had by flying a 450 sq ft asymmetric screecher from the bowsprit.

Standard craft utilises patented swivel up rudder system developed by Cobra Catamarans.

The first 50 boats are being offered for sale at a special introductory price both in kit form for home completion and as a finished boat. The kit which has fully joined hulls and decks and all moulded interior fitted takes approximately 50 man hours to finish.
