Yves Parlier's Team:

On Sunday early in the afternoon, Médiatis Région Aquitaine left Arcachon for the Canaries Islands, with a crew of six on board: Yves Parlier, Lalou Roucayrol, Romaric Neyhousser, Stéphane Hervé, Christophe Gouineau says Papo and Rémi Beauvais.

Médiatis Région Aquitaine ended the phase 3 of its Step by Step method. To recap, this procedure, started with the launch of the boat last January, has allowed a precise preparation of the catamaran. Phase 1 consisted of validating the work done since June 2005 and checking equipment. Phase 2 allowed the team to concentrate on the various speeds and sailing points of the boat. Phase 3, just finished, attempted to formalise and quantify the execution of the operations, as well as orchestrating the best organization aboard.

Médiatis Région Aquitaine was tested on the Basin of Arcachon, Bay of Biscay, the estuary of the Gironde and even on the Garonne, in Bordeaux, and in various weather conditions.

After about twenty navigations, the hydroplaner was ready to leave the Port of Arcachon to return to its training base in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, in the Canaries Islands.

The meteorological conditions being favourable, Yves Parlier and his crew will make a first attempt to set at a crewed 24 hour distance record for multihulls up to 60 feet. The only record in this category is Laurent Bourgnon’s solo record, set in 1994, with 540 miles in 24 hours, an average of 22.5 knots.
