Spain. Trofeo Princesa Sofía-Mapfre: Home teams well positioned after the first day of racing

A light Embat wind, 7 knots, that kept changing through the day welcomed the first day of racing of this 37 edition of the Trofeo Princesa Sofía-Mapfre. Pablo Arrarte finished second in the Finn class, Javier Hernández was third in Laser and team Iker Martínez/Xabi Fernández was third overall in the 49er, bringing the best results of the Spanish team.
Greek team Paschalidis Iordanis/Trigonis leads the Tornado fleet, followed by Austrian 2004 Olympic medallists Roman Hagara/Hans Peter Steinacher and third place is for Russian team Andrey Kirilyuk/Valery Ushkov.
In the Neil Pryde RS:X, the lead is for Israeli sailor Shahar Tzuberi, followed by British sailor Nick Dempsey and Ricardo Santos from Brasil.
In Neil Pryde RS:X women, Bryoni Shaw (GBR) is the leader followed by Greek competitor, Skarlatou Angeliki and Agata Brygola from Poland.
470 women World champions Marcelien de Koning/Lobke Berkhout won the first and only race sailed in the class. Second place was for Ukranian team Rusiana Taran/Olena Pacholchyk and French team Ingrid Petitjean/Nadège Douroux finished third.
49er World champions from Ukraine Rodion Luka/Georgii Leonchuk are the winners in the class followed closely by Danish crew Peter Krüger Andersen/Dennos Dengso and Athens 2004 GFold medallists Iker Martínez/Xabi Fernández.
The lead in the Finn class was for Norwegian sailor Peer Morberg, followed by Spanish sailor Pablo Arrarte and Ed Wright from Great Britain, in second and third place respectively. .
The Laser and Laser radial groups sailed three races each. Polish sailor Maciej Grabowski leads the Laser standings followed by Gustavo Lima from Portugal and Spanish sailor Javier Hernández.
Belgian sailor Evi van Acker tops the Laser Radial stadings followed by Lithuanian competidor Gintare Volungeviciute and US sailor Anna Tunnicliffe.
The 470 men blue group was the only fleet that did not manage to sail a race and will be the first group to sail tomorrow.
Races are scheduled tomorrow at 12:00 hours for all classes except the 49er that will start at 11:00 hours. Tomorrow will be the first day of competition for the 420, Europe, Dragon and Yngling.
The Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofía-Mapfre is organised by Real Federación Española de Vela, Federación Balear de Vela, Real Club Náutico de Palma, Club Nàutic s'Arenal, Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa and Escuela de Vela Calanova.
