Lucas Brun:
This trip so far has been a little bit strange. Besides all the positions shifting on the beginning of the leg, so far we have seen very little wild life! I have to say almost none. Today was one of the first days we saw a seagull. It kept chasing us for hours, sometimes doing nose dives and others just cruising around us. By the end of the day she just turned around and left, flying towards the dying sun. Something must be happening around here. I remember sailing with my dad and seeing everything, whales, dolphins… but this time nothing. Must be the famous and dangerous effect called men...
Wild life Bloom
17:43 GMT - Another watch change to come. Luke Molloy and Yves Leblevec are already awake downstairs preparing to come on deck. Nothing going on, just a light breeze with some bad chop. As Yves comes on deck he looks to the bow and yells "whale! Whale!". Everybody gets excited. As I said before we hadn’t seen wild life for quite a while and suddenly we see whales!!!
First reaction was getting the camera and running to the bow to try getting some nice footage. Couple minutes passed and not even a spray... Suddenly, one of the 3 whales we had spotted, appears about 4 meters from the bow forcing Hans to bear away quickly so we didn’t hit her. Quite amazing! Everybody calmed down and within 10 minutes the same thing happens "whale! Whale!". Just on my watch we saw about 8 whales! I was guessing they were all humpback whales, quite typical from the coast of Brazil. Not happy with "just that" we saw a big pack of jumping dolphins, flying fish and seagulls.
It appears to me that the wild life just decided to show off to the kids of the white street fighter. Maybe that’s a good sign... maybe our luck change like that too... |
