ABN AMRO ONE (Mike Sanderson) is closing on leading boat, movistar (Bouwe Bekking). In the last six hours Sanderson has gained another six nautical miles and is now only 15 miles behind the Spanish team. Worryingly for Bekking, ABN AMRO ONE is sailing a knot faster.
With approximately 12 hours to go until arriving at the scoring gate, ABN AMRO ONE, if she continues at her current speed, taking the same amount of miles out of the leader every six hours, could arrive at Fernando de Noronha at exactly the same time as movistar. Movistar needs the first place points at the scoring gate to give her a buffer for third place from Pirates of the Caribbean who is now 29 miles behind movistar.
The positions in the second half of the fleet are unchanged and in sixth place, ABN AMRO TWO (Sebastien Josse) is now 72 miles adrift from the leader, with Brasil 1 (Torben Grael) and Ericsson (John Kostecki) ahead of her. |
