Marian Martin:
Consultants Genecon are shortly expected to publish a report, indicating whether a new canal or a boat lift should be used to get boats in and out of Barrow’s proposed marina. Boat owners, yacht clubs and marina operators have been consulted. Once Genecon has given its report on marina access, West Lakes Renaissance will seek £9 milllion funding approval from the Northwest Development Agency.
Five unnamed UK construction firms, who will compete for contracts worth £18 million, on other aspects of Barrow’s waterfront regeneration, were briefed yesterday by officials from West Lakes Renaissance, which will be asking for tenders in the next two to three months. The first phase of the work will be reclamation of the business & innovation park site, which is scheduled to start before the end of the year, and creation of roads and services.
West Lakes Renaissance is also hoping that the Northwest Regional Development Agency will back its proposal for a cruise liner terminal in Barrow. |
