On 15 February 2006, the 52nd annual meeting of ABYC was held, during the Miami International Boat Show & Strictly Sail Miami, and Lorenzo Pollicardo, Secretary General of UCINA, was elected onto the ABYC Board of Directors.

ABYC - American Boat & Yacht Council - is a not-for-profit membership organisation that has been developing and updating the safety standards for boat building and repair for over 50 years. ABYC is actively involved with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and is a leader in education for the marine industry, as well as certification programmes for marine technicians.

ABYC - NMMA partner - membership includes boat builders, boat owners, surveyors, boat yards, insurance companies, law firms, trade associations, marinas, dealerships, government agencies, educational institutions and equipment and accessory manufacturers. Over 400 volunteers donate time, expertise, and research while serving on technical committees, which develop and revise the ABYC standards and technical information reports.

UCINA, the Italian association of shipyards, boating and allied industries is a not-for-profit organisation that develops and promotes the boating industry and fosters the culture of the sea and pleasure boating.With more than 400 member businesses and organisations, UCINA represents the world's leading nautical industry that it promotes abroad by participating in international trade fairs and by promoting missions to emerging markets by the trade.

Lorenzo Pollicardo stated: "In light of this recent election, the possibility of setting up a synergic relationship between ABYC and UCINA has appeared and it involves their respective technical divisions, which are also committed to reviewing safety standards, with the aim of internationalising the Association and the Italian marine industry more and more".
