The Water Channel, the world’s first television network devoted to water lifestyle programming, announced an agreement with the Mystic Seaport Museum of America and The Sea, to bring America’s maritime history to millions of viewers through a collaboration that will include content, programming development and product sales.
The Mystic Seaport Museum of America and The Sea is located in Mystic, Conn. and is the country’s leading maritime museum with many rare and historic artifacts and boats. It offers a look at America’s historic connection and relationship with the sea. Its 17 acres include a 19th century coastal village with historic ships from the once great Yankee fleet, a preservation shipyard and museum exhibits. The museum is celebrating its 75th anniversary.
The Water Channel, which officially launched this week at the Miami International Boat Show, blends water sports and lifestyle entertainment programming with transactional television, a home shopping show titled Club Blue that features products targeted at its niche audience. Viewers are able to order products over an 800 call-in number, by clicking on specially programmed television remotes or over the Internet.
The Water Channel has been on the air since October 2005 and is rapidly expanding its reach and coverage. Currently available to 12 million satellite subscribers on channel 216 of the Dish Network, it will be in approximately 35 million homes by summer with the addition of two of America’s largest cable providers. |
