Roman Abramovitch’s megayacht Le Grand Bleu sailed from Auckland minus one of its crew members, Wayne Lee, and left a mystery as to how the Papua New Guinean deckhand, who lived in Cairns, met his death just a few hundred metres from the 108 metre yacht.

Lee was seen leaving a massage parlour on January 16 and then showed up on a Princess Wharf video, walking alone through an area leading to where Le Grand Bleu was moored, in the early hours of the next morning.

The crew of the superyacht reported Lee missing on January 17 and then sailed for an unknown destination. Five days later the cruise ship Statendam came alongside the wharf and its churning propellers brought Lee’s body to the surface.

So far, police have not stated the cause of death, but Wayne’s parents, Francis and Katie Lee, flew from Australia and have been allowed to take Wayne’s body home.
