Paula, Kathy, Sarah and Lois:
Congratulations to Bout de Vie which finished on Monday 23rd January. A photo of them has been sent from the MA supporters in Antigua of the boat finishing with to a warm welcome for the two French amputees. Their website says "It is a beautiful lesson of courage which our two oarsmen give us today. I thank them for having made us live with the daily reports the joys, the sorrows, the anguishes which they could feel on their boat".
I am sure that their thoughts from their log on the 19 January talking about EDF finishing reflect how they feel about their own finish: "That sleepless nights, that of doubt and yet happiness is there, at the end of the road, patience and perseverance are certainly the keys of the success." In anticipating their own finish they had said "The anguishes are always there and yet we are serene, we believe in it in this arrival because that will be the beginning of true life."
Fantastic words - I would hazard a guess that our intrepid women are thinking about the finish now too. With only 461 miles to go as at 16:27 today they will be wondering if this will be their last Tuesday at sea and no doubt dreaming of being able to walk on the beach with a pina colda!
The Guernsey Press gave a wonderful write up today - Hello to everyone at Capelles School who are following Miss Day's progress. I am sure she is looking forward to telling you all about her adventures when she comes home!
The reports back from Woodvale, the organisers, and from the Yacht Aurora are that the girls are in good spirits and everything is working except the phone - which they need for e-mails and finding the position of the other boats.
I have attached a picture of the yacht “Athena” that called alongside the girls when information was passed to/from them a few weeks ago. The crew simply checked they were OK, which they were, and whether they needed anything, which they didn’t. The Athena crew are heading off to the Domican Republic in about a weeks time but if the girls are here when they get back, they said they’d like to meet them.
Just to show that the Trade Winds aren't meant to be blowing old boots in the wrong direction I have attached a poem by John Masefield
Mission Atlantic is crewed by Paula Evemy, Kathy Tracey, Sarah Day, Lois Rawlins-Duquemin from Guernsey, C.I.
