Gill Tickner:
Charlie and Phil are now firmly under the 1,000 mile mark with 926 statute miles to go! Yesterday’s call came from a happy Charlie Fisher, “Nothing much to report, we are fine, putting reasonable miles in, another degree to the West again and really, really looking forward to the end. Incredible to see some of the others put 100 miles in – not quite sure how they do it. The weird thing is that we aren’t really rowing at the moment in this race – we’d expected trade wind conditions for most of the race, and now we are in them, we’ve sort of stopped rowing. It’s not through lack of trying, we grab the opportunities when we can, but they are few and far between. We hope we haven’t been pushed too far south today, we’ve been really trying not to, but some southeasterly winds to push everyone north, would be great!”
Phil rang in with a special message to his daughter Jess, who turns 7 today. “Jess, Happy, happy birthday! Lots and lots of love from Daddy and really sorry I can’t be there with you today. I promise to make up for it when I get back! Also love to Sasha, be a good girl and be nice to your sister on her birthday!”
EDF have now overtaken the team of 4 in front of them and have pulled away from the boats behind. They have only 320 miles to go with an ETA of Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
