Naval news:
The excitement of life at sea comes to Cumbria later this month when a dynamic multi-media roadshow visits Carlisle, Penrith and Barrow to reveal how the modern Royal Navy operates around the world.
The Royal Navy Presentation Team (RNPT) explains to invited audiences exactly what the Navy does, including roles such as providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief in the wake of a natural disaster, fighting terrorists and protecting UK citizens at home and abroad.
The team is visiting Carlisle Racecourse on January 30, the North Lakes Hotel in Penrith on January 31 and Forum 28 in Barrow on February 1.
In addition to using the latest technology to take the audience inside warships, submarines and aircraft, the RNPT provides a platform for the Navy's front-line men and women to talk directly to people across the UK. Ordinary sailors and marines tell their stories while the head of the Navy, Admiral Sir Alan West, delivers a recorded introduction to the presentation.
The team travels the length of the country each year with a mission to explain how taxpayers' money is spent and what return the public can expect from its investment.
The presentations will be followed by a lively question and answer session in which the team tackles often challenging questions posed by the invited audiences.
Commander Paul Lloyd, who leads the RNPT and is one of its presenters, said: "As much of our work is carried out over the horizon, people in the UK are not necessarily aware of it, unless it makes huge headlines. Therefore it is vitally important that we take the RNPT on the road to tell our story." |
