Liz and Richard:

So Friday 13th is upon us and all on board Bilbo have fingers crossed, horseshoes upside down and magpies at the ready to ward off any bad luck spirits that might find their way out here! Having said that, I think yesterday provided us with enough bad luck for a Friday 13th (perhaps they do things differently out here)! As you know oar no 2 was broken, prompting the need for repair to oar no 1 which involved fibreglassing. No sooner had Richard begun the operation than the heavens opened and he had to complete it inside the cabin (not an easy task)! Oh its just one of those quick showers, we thought, we'll keep rowing, we thought!! Well that particular shower started at 11 am and finished just after 7pm!! Leaving two shivering and soaking rowers doing the best they could to dry themselves and not make the cabin too wet.

Blue sky then appeared for dinner, behind which was the blackest of thunder clouds you would ever want to see from a small boat in the middle of the ocean! So we wolfed down dinner and decided to put everything on deck away (in case of rolling) and shut the door on the world for the night. That was it we had fought our battle for the day and now it was time to rest. Rest is not exactly something you can get though when your house is under constant attack from a relenting enemy who seems determined to knock down your door and turn your bedroom to matchsticks! The storm finally dissipated at around midnight and by 4am rowing was again possible.

So since yesterday, we have crossed the 1000 mile to go mark (yea us!!), back into our rowing pattern, sun is out, wind is blowing us west, clothes are being washed (in freshwater!!) and we are making good speed. So we are hopeful that the spirits of Friday 13th had their fun yesterday and are planning on being elsewhere today!

It was a good night again for Bilbo in FFK with 4 FF being found on deck this morning in some very strange places ... perhaps we are going to have to start awarding the fish with points for imaginative landing places! God knows, they need the points

Overall score now stands at: - Bilbo 186 : FF 42

Love to everyone at home and a happy weekend

L & R xx"
