At sea. Atlantic Rowing Challenge: People with cancer are having a harder time than us PDF Print E-mail

Gill Tickner:

When Charlie rang in yesterday, it was the REAL Charlie Fisher back. “We’re feeling a lot more philosophical about it all now. We’ll get there when we get there and so long as put in our degree to the west each day, we’re happy. I think I’ve been complaining a bit recently, and I’m sorry – not normally like that. It’s just that we are living like savages, you wouldn’t believe it and without wanting to whinge, this is so much harder than we thought! Having 25 knots is very trying – it is just that little bit too much wind for us, so it would be really good if they would drop a little! I can’t believe how consistently the wind is blowing – it just never stops! I’ve spent quite a bit of time at sea and normally the wind stops at night, or from time to time – out here it is simply endless!! It is not easy to row in. Have to say, we are now officially dreaming of Antigua and staying in a nice villa there. We are under the 1,000 mile mark in nautical miles anyway, which is a good psychological boost. The end is almost in sight, kind of, but it does still seem a long way off.”

“Kerry’s recent message was spot on. Whilst we think we are having a hard time out here, just think about all those people having a genuine hard time with cancer, or a premature baby. Thanks Kerry, it really helped remind us of why we are here. We shouldn’t complain.”

If you haven’t donated yet, please, please do so now. This is the other way that you can literally help Charlie and Phil.

Regarding ETA’s into Antigua – EDF are expected in next Tuesday 17th or Wednesday 18th January, Bout De Vie are quoting between 22nd and 24th January, and C2 are saying some time between 20th-25th. Assuming every thing is straight forward, this should hopefully see Charlie and Phil in on the last weekend of January. Whilst it is starting to feel that the end is in sight, anything could still happen between now and the end. 1,000 miles is still a very long way to row and whilst storms are less likely now, they are always possible.
