Exhibition news:

Keeping an established boat show fresh and interesting is the name of the game. The New York National Boat Show, the world’s first and longest running boat show, which took place at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from December 31, 2005, through January 8, 2006, upheld its 101-year tradition once again to the delight of nearly 75,000 attendees.

In addition to more than 1,000 boats and the latest in cutting-edge electronics and gear, this year’s Show featured a special New Product Showcase, a dual series of free, daily freshwater and saltwater seminars, multiple giveaways and a compelling “I ♥ Boating” display with exhibits promoting responsible use and preservation of the region's waterways. The star attraction, the Boats of Bond Exhibit, five 007 super spy craft right out of the movies, proved to be a stellar crowd pleaser.

As Show Manager Michael Duffy, who has been producing the New York Show for the last 15 years, noted, “Every year we seek to improve every aspect of the Show. We look forward to providing the latest in marine products and new boat models, combined with interesting special features and giveaways that educate and entertain attendees, while drawing them into the boating lifestyle. We want people to leave the Show saying this is for me -- this boat, this lifestyle, this community!”

As the first boat show of the winter season, the NY National Boat Show serves as a bellwether for the industry. Positive reports from the Show floor reflected high quality traffic and strong sales. Here’s what some of the exhibitors were saying:

Frank Civitano: Typhoon Performance Marine "This has been our best year ever for our performance boats—a banner year!"

Fran Zicuis: NorthCoast Boats "The bottom line is we sold a lot of boats and we are very pleased."

Frank Bongiorno:Staten Island Yacht Sales "We experienced a good show. Twenty-five percent of our purchasers at the show were entering the market as first time boat owners."

It was fabulous! Our Shimano rods sold out until February.
