Shore team:

The support team has had no satellite phone contact with Al & Nick since January 10. However, they are making good progress in the right direction so we can only assume all is well and that they have decided to continue with Nick rowing and Al acting as quartermaster. Probably their satellite phone has ceased to function; other boats are suffering from the same problem. We have been in touch with Theresa of the Woodvale office in Devon and also Lin Parker, skipper of support yacht "Aurora". They will keep us updated on Gurkha Spirit's progress. Every boat is provided with an "Argos" which keeps track of exactly where the boat is located. On that device is a button which crews are expected to press daily to indicate they are conscious and rowing. Keep the SMSs flowing; they may be able to get their satellite working and would love to be inundated with your best wishes!

The ships doctor, who advised Al on the appropriate treatment, believes his ribs are either badly bruised or at worst cracked. Either way, with pain killers and rest, things could improve after a week or so. Based on Al's description of the pain he didn't think the ribs had been broken. By noon today they had completed 51sm in 24 hours and a total of 1685sm. Their next goal is to pass "Team Sun Latte" which is some 11sm ahead. Their coordinates at noon were N19.8/W042.7. Their bearing to reach Antigua would be 266d. Nick and Al of course continue to seek sponsors and donations for their two charities: “The Gurkha Welfare Trust "and "Sight Savers International". There are two boxes on their web site ,www.adventure4charity.com, that indicate how to do this
