Within hours of doors opening at London Boat Show’s preview day on Friday, Zapcat Racing sold its limited edition boat built to mark the first five years of successful business for the world’s largest one design powerboat series.

The striking red and white craft, forming the centrepiece of the Zapcat Racing stand (N1733) at this year’s London Boat Show, was snapped up by Saints fan Richard Thoroughgood of Southampton.

‘I saw the last Zapcat event of the season in Bournemouth and thought it’d be great to have a go. When I saw the boat on the stand in the red and white of my football team I couldn’t resist,’ Richard said.

After years of sailing in the Solent, Richard has decided to try out the adrenalin fuelled world of Zapcat Racing. Richard, UK Marine Sales Manager for Garmin, plans to race his new Zapcat in the 2006 National Championship with his wife Lisa as co-pilot.

Zapcat Racing was launched in 2001 at the London Boat Show and now runs a thriving race circuit around the UK.

Tony Jones, Zapcat Racing’s Commercial Manager, says that interest is continuing to grow ahead of the 2006 Zapcat Racing season.

‘We’ve seen massive growth at Zapcat Racing over the last five years, and if the interest we’re seeing here at the London Boat Show is anything to go by, we’re set to see even greater growth in years to come,’ he said.

‘It looks like the 2006 Zapcat National Championship is going to be the biggest yet,’ he added.
