The Brasil 1 team is awaiting assessment of the cause of the damage to the boat's carbon fibre hull, which is being carried out in Port Elizabeth, and an evaluation of the feasibility and time needed to make repairs. Depending on those judgements, the yacht will either be shipped to Melbourne, like Ericsson, or will restart the Southern Ocean leg.
Skipper Torben Grael said "We still have a chance to compete in this leg but the decision will only be made later today. We are all feeling very optimistic and hoping to get to Australia by our own sails."
