Inland Waterways news:
Travelling to London by boat will be easier in 2006 with a new boater’s guide, to be launched by British Waterways, at the London Boat Show in January highlighting the top ten visitor mooring sites in the capital.
The free guide encourages boat owners and hirers to make the most of London’s perfectly placed canals and rivers and use them as a base while exploring the capital and surrounding areas. With many of London’s top attractions only minutes away by tube or foot, visiting London by boat is the perfect way of staying close to the action without the expense of hotel bills.
“London’s waterways offer a wonderful mix of wildlife, history, life and vitality. From the tranquillity and natural beauty of the River Stort to the industrial heritage of the Regent’s Canal, London’s waterways offer an alternative view of the capital and a place to escape if it all gets too much.” said Gareth Stephens, boating manager for London.
A variety of facilities for visiting boats are available across London’s waterways, including privately operated marinas, boatyards and moorings as well as British Waterways own visitor moorings.
‘Visit London by Water: A guide to facilities for boaters visiting London’s canals and rivers’ is a taster of what’s available in the capital. As well as featuring three popular routes for boaters looking to travel through the capital and tips to enjoy the best of London’s waterways, the guide lists the ten best sites to moor up for sightseeing. The top ten sites are as follows:
Bishop’s Stortford
Limehouse Basin
Brentford
Little Venice
Camden
Paddington Basin
Hertford
Uxbridge
Islington
Victoria Park |
