Neil Gillon:
After 3 weeks at sea, the teams are now enjoying positive miles in the right direction and getting back in to their ‘normal’ routines. Reports from many teams show that yesterday it was easier to gain miles by rowing together and then resting together – hopefully yesterday was the last day for that given that conditions in the cabin do not allow for comfort or easy sleep. By all accounts over the next 24 hours, they should start to enjoy consistent and the ‘much-craved-for’ Northeasterly winds with the sea swell also in the right direction. Miles per day are already on the up, but they should increase substantially once in the trade winds. Atlantic Prince are stating that whilst thoughts of breaking the record are long-gone, a 50-day race will be tough but achievable. This would bring them in on the 18th January..
Poor Roz Savage, the only single-handed female in the race has reported that her camping stove has broken so for her much-longer race, she will be living off Muesli, snack bars, sprouted seeds and biltong, which don't need cooking. The dehydrated food will be edible if left to soak for several hours..Hopefully Charlie and Phil’s ‘lamb and muck’ will taste all the better with that thought..
For Charlie and Phil today’s menu comprises of Porridge, nuts and raisins, calshake,
Tuna, lime and black pepper with noodles, more raisins, more calshake, rice krispie squares, more calshake, Beef Teriyaki, Snickers bar, yet more calshake, 1 bag of crisps, 4 litres of Lucozade, Haribo wine gums, and 1 Alpen bar with chocolate.
Several days ago, Charlie reported that they were already losing weight and finding it hard to achieve the ambitious number of calshakes each day. There will be an official weigh-in when they return. Charlie and Phil left La Gomera weighing 88.5 and 114.5 kgs respectively. Nikki Harris who also joined in the competition is hoping that by giving birth to twins will give her a bit of an edge!
