Race Exhibition news:

After hosting an Olympic Star Class race, Seatec 2006 is to host the one design J24 match race. Giorgio “Dodo” Gorla’s crew – with Roberto Gazzei in the cockpit – will meet other famous crews, an extraordinary level for the J24 class, guaranteeing a great show.

Prize giving and conferences on new materials, regattas, wind and sea conditions, during an event which is fuller in content every year. Free entrance for FIV card holders.

Meetings on water:

2nd February: the first Olympic class Star race which gathers the best sailors in the world, to evaluate the new technological materials, produced especially for this event. Enrico Chieffi, 2005 Star class Italian Champion, 1995 World Champion in Rio de Janeiro, and Mario Salani, second place 2005 Italian Finn, 1991 Star World Champion in Cannes, racing against a foreign crew.

4th February: J24 Match Race, with famous Italian names challenging Dodo Gorla, winner of Italian titles, World Championship and 2 Olympic medals.

The regattas are organized by Architect Andrea Tarabella together with Marina di Carrara Club Nautico.

Fair events:

2nd February: during the morning there is a conference on Holmenkol products, nanotechnology for the sailor, with the participation of the company’s technicians.

In the afternoon, prize giving for the Star race and report on Halsey’s laminated sails test, produced specifically for the race. Conference comparing old and new materials.

4th February: 2.00 pm: J24 Match Race prize giving. A conference will follow to discuss the possibility of making the race a national event and putting it on the official calendar. Valentin Mankin, many times Olympic Champion – three times Olympic gold – now Technical Staff Olympic Classes and Olympic Trainer, will join in.

The need to complete Seatec with a full programme comes from the clear datum given in 2005 by a large number of people interested in racing.

Area Race, with companies specializing in racing technology and articles, will join in the rich window of this fair which will add to the designers this year an exhibition area for compound and interior design materials.

Free entrance for FIV card holders (confirmation check at the entrance).

The most important Mediterranean exhibition in the field after just three years. Seatec 2006 has recorded a huge increase in subscriptions and has a very rich calendar including provision for a day entirely dedicated to yacht design with the prize giving of MYDA, Millennium Yacht Design Award, its third award, for shipbuilding professional designs which have been produced during 2005 and for designers – both established and new professionals – whose projects are not yet in production.
