Representatives from Glasgow, as well as starting city Liverpool, have flown to Durban to witness the events surrounding the Clipper 2005-06 Race. Tonight the British High Commissioner to South Africa, Paul Boateng, will host a reception.

High profile trade missions and big business are using Clipper’s unique city backed race format to full advantage, with sailing days and boat tours providing a festival atmosphere on the Bay of Natal.

Among the sailors, Lucia Shange – the first black woman ever to take part in this event - has been swamped with media attention since she arrived earlier this week. The former street kid, after an incredibly tough childhood, now uses her experiences by working with I Care, a programme for underprivileged kids in some of the roughest parts of Durban.

The third leg of this round-the-world voyage starts on Sunday, November 27.
