This morning the fleet’s relative positions remain unchanged. With all the boats averaging around 10 knots in seemingly similar conditions it is hard to make any major gains. Instead, David Pryce and the crew on board Westernaustralia.com continue to consolidate their lead, each day putting a little bit more distance between themselves and their competitors.

However there can be a disadvantage in being in the lead. If the wind up ahead is less favourable they could potentially suffer first. The latest forecast shows that this may well happen as a large area of high pressure is predicted to open up ahead of them. The good news for them is that it will probably affect everyone else as well. Unfortunately the regular speeds that the fleet have been enjoying look set to end in the next few days if the high expands as shown on the chart. The forecast shown is for midnight on the 8th, 3 days after issue, so one can but hope that things change over the next few days and the computer generated model turns out to be somewhat off the mark other wise they could have a slow few days ahead.
