An eye witness to the incident in which Phocea hit rocks has told BYM News "The Captain made an unfortunate decision to take the Phocea on the inside of a 50 metre that was anchored of Pte Legato. She was not under sail and appeared to be at full power when she hit a well charted rock."

This eye witness (capatin of one of several large yachts in the anchorage) added "This incident and the unfortunate fatality of a swimmer last week emphasises that its time for the authorities to start regulating these anchorages during peak periods of the year. There is far too much tonnage and horsepower in too small an area; at the least it results in embarrassment and damage to expensive boats and at worst it has resulted in a death. There is a Police boat anchored off the Italian PM's house all summer, why not have one in Cala di Volpe as well ?"

"I propose a 10 knot speed limit in the area from Pta. Capriccioli in the north to Pta. Canigone to the east of Marinella, encompassing Cala di Volpe, Portisco & Rotondo. I would even go for 5 knots in Cala di Volpe itself."

BYM News has received a number of similar e-mails calling for regulation of the more popular anchorages in Italy and France.
