The yacht's hull suffered further damage, during the heavy swells earlier this week, and a study will now determine whether the Land's End should be refloated, or taken to pieces where it lies. The yacht is lying on a reef and said to be in an unstable situation.
On land,Corsican environmentalists and the members of the tourist industry are protesting about the consequences of the grounding. Environmentalist claim that even the small amount of oil that came out of the yacht will have killed surface plankton, with a resultant adverse effect on the marine food chain. About 100 people in the tourist industry have been demonstrating for the last two days, handing out leaflets on the Liamone bridge that claim the French authorities have mismanaged the incident and its aftermath. Liamone beach has been closed to swimmers and there is a 200 metre exclusion zone around the wreck.
