Investment managers back Scottish sailing to the tune of £50,000

Bell Lawrie, leading Scottish investment managers, have committed to sponsoring the Scottish Series for a further two years. Scotland’s largest sailing regatta, which is organised by the Clyde Cruising Club, is set to benefit from an investment of £50,000.

Bell Lawrie, who have sponsored the Scottish Series for the past six years, have seen the event go from strength to strength with around 200 yachts now participating. The five-day race series takes place on Loch Fyne, Tarbert and is open to a wide range of classes, with participants competing from across the UK, to as far a field as Hong Kong and the UAE. The Bell Lawrie Scottish Series is a popular event in the Scottish business community, with regular participants including Boyd Tunnock, Keith Miller and Iain Graham. This year also saw a guest appearance from double Olympic Gold medallist Shirley Robertson.

The Series attracts over 2500 spectators to the picturesque West Coast village over the May holiday weekend generating around £1 million per year for the local economy. The event, which has been going for over 30 years, is much more than a sailing competition, with an impressive array of shore-side activities organised by the Tarbert Enterprise Company, making the Bell Lawrie Scottish Series a real weekend out for all the family.

Commenting on the investment, Fraser Gardiner, director at sponsors Bell Lawrie said, “After six successful years, we are delighted to be extending our commitment to this thriving event. Over the years we have thoroughly enjoyed being involved in the competition, working with the organisers and the local community to ensure we maximise its potential. Our sponsorship benefits not only the sailing fraternity but the wider community in the local area.”

Clive Scott, commodore of Clyde Cruising Club added, “We are pleased that Bell Lawrie has extended their commitment to the Scottish Series. Their support will help the competition evolve even further and I have no doubt that the best is yet to come.”
