The high seas tug Abeille Flandres, now stationed in the Mediterranean, has reached Corsica and is standing by the stricken 400 ton yacht Land's End, which ran aground on rocks yesterday. Personnel from Group Bourbon, owners of the tug, are assessing the problems of sealing hull breaches and refloating the vessel. The owner has been advised of his obligations to minimise pollution and is co-operating with salvage experts.

An anti-pollution vessel is also standing by, with a barrage, but this is now considered to be a precautionary measure.

Fears of a major pollution of nearby beaches have faded, as it is now believed that the majority of already spilt oil came from the yacht's engines and not her tanks, as had been first feared, and anti-pollution vessels have been able to clear most of this using absorbent pads.
