Press release:

Najad will be showing four yachts at this year’s Southampton Boat Show; the 380 (11.55m) and the 400 (12.2m) and are extremely pleased to introduce the new Najad 332 (9.98m) and the Najad 440 (13.50m).

The four yachts will be located on three berths; at 327A, 328 and 329.

In particular, the 440 is the first new Najad to be launched under the stewardship of Alfred and Marianne Van Wincoop, following their acquisition of the company at the beginning of 2005.

The new Najad 440 will be presented during August 2005 and can be seen at the IJmuiden, Holland and Southampton Boat Shows during September 2005.

Over ten deposits, from both European and US customers, have already been secured and delivery will commence during September 2005.

Alfred and Marianne have clear vision for the future of Najad. The core market will remain absolutely essential. But in addition to these customers, they will be introducing greater choice and more flexibility across the range, to widen the customer base. Najad yachts will appeal to owners who have design, performance and exclusivity in mind.

The new Najad 440 joins an existing six model range, and will be available in either one of two deck layout options; as an aft cockpit or centre cockpit version. Either version can be ordered with a large degree of semi-customisation an aspect, in fact, that applies across Najad’s full range.

In the case of the aft cockpit version, owners have great flexibility in specifying one of three cabin configurations, depending upon either a cruising or family orientated priority. The choice of interior layout will cater either for more storage and locker space, perhaps with extended cruising in mind, or for more sleeping spaces, where family considerations are a key priority.

The centre cockpit version will appeal to the more traditionalist customer, likely to be already familiar with this layout.

This version will be produced with two large double cabins, fore and aft. Each with a large berth and separate bathroom. Just perfect for owners who sail with another couple, from time to time.

The 440 represents further evolution of the successful design collaboration between Najad and judel/vrolijk & co. This award winning partnership has helped Najad raise their profile even further as a builder of fast, high quality, contemporary styled cruisers to a worldwide audience.

Commenting upon the new 440, judel/vrolijk & co add:

“The challenge was to find an optimal balance between classic Najad styling and modern performance and desirable sailing quality. As a result, the hull has a narrow V-shaped entry and beamy U-shaped sections aft, a combination granting healthy stability upwind and excellent behaviour at sea.

But the real news is beneath the water; the keel is shorter, deeper and slimmer than ever before on an equivalent Najad. The rudder is of a spade type, deep with perfect balance for finger light steering and maximum control in big, following seas. Owners can also expect superb manoeuvrability in close quarters handling.”

Najad have employed the services of renowned ‘superyacht’ interior specialists, Dick Young Designs. This new co-operation has ensured the interior of the new yacht is as fresh and equally up to date as her exterior.

Part of the brief was to re-evaluate the use of the interior space and modernise the look and feel of the furniture and fittings, creating an easy to live with style. Furthermore, that during heavy weather or night sailing, the new interior must show no concession to a lack of safety and security.

Owners can expect a lighter, more pleasing atmosphere inside. Two main wood types will be used to create an intriguing two tone effect; Jatoba wood will be used and matched alongside Najad’s famous mahogany joinery.

Leather covered, stainless steel grab rails have been used, to make an attractive design feature, with a clear purpose. The navigation area resembles an integrated ‘work station’ and can be specified with a pc installed, or with laptop connectivity options.

Flush mounted plexi-glass panelling will conceal switchboards and flat screen technology will be used throughout. There will be options to supply state of the art music, DVD and video systems as required.

Najad build their yachts to a highly rigorous set of standards determined by Germanischer Lloyds. This consistent quality and attention to detail is one of the factors that contribute to the extremely high residual values that only a used Najad can command.

The 440 will be an extraordinarily capable passage making cruiser, with abilities that can only be best experienced, to be enjoyed.
