Press release:

19 years after the first Virgin Challenger set off from New York in an attempt to break the world record for the fastest Atlantic crossing, Avon Inflatables is once again offering support to the Virgin Challenger crew.

After finally smashing the world record with the Virgin Challenger II in1986, the crew is again taking up the helm in an attempt to break the world record for the fastest crossing from Monte Carlo to London. The crew has approached Avon to supply all the lifesaving equipment, including 2 6-man Ocean liferafts in canisters and Avon lifejackets. Avon inflatables is one of the few original sponsors from the first record attempt, when it supplied the lifesaving equipment that saved the crew after they capsized off the Southwest coast of England.

The Virgin Challenger II is now undergoing restoration ready for the new record attempt, which has been provisionally scheduled for August this year.

Avon Inflatables Joint Managing Director, Alan Morgan commented,

"It's great to see the Challenger II back on the water and we're please to again be able to offer our support in this new record attempt. The boat will be fitted with some of our most state-of-the-art lifesaving equipment - but let's hope they don't need it!".
